Holiday bonus! GRATITUDE as a power tool for weight loss.

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful and a time to give back. I explain that the gratitude you feel this Holiday season can also be harnessed as a powerful tool in your weight loss journey.

Thanksgiving is a time of gratitude – a holiday to reminiscence on all you’re thankful for and what you’re looking forward to in the future. This day provides such a special opportunity for positive feelings. But Thanksgiving also provides you with the reminder that being thankful is not just something you feel during the holidays, it’s a feeling that is always available and you can make it possible to feel this way all of the time.

The holiday season brings on the negative emotions

During this time of year, you can feel many emotions and there are so many things you can choose to be stressed, worried, anxious, annoyed and overwhelmed by! From seeing family and friends, events and get togethers, to staying on track with your weight goals – you have high expectations for the holidays! But hold on and take a step back – this is an opportunity to remind yourself that we create our feelings with what we choose to think about.

Take a moment to stop and reflect when you notice yourself feeling negative: What am I thinking that’s causing me to feel this way?

Negative emotions can sabotage your goals

The negative emotions you can feel around the holidays are the kind of emotions that fuel emotional eating, the biggest culprit that keeps women struggling with their weight goals.

How can you use gratitude as a weight loss tool?

Gratitude can be a surprisingly effective weight loss tool, despite sounding counterintuitive so hear me out. Gratitude is a weight loss tool because we emotionally eat. Instead of focusing on negative emotions, consciously fill your heart and mind with gratitude so there is no longer any room for negative feelings, emotional eating and goal sabotage. Consider your eating habits – they’re often driven by emotions you don’t want to feel to distract you or comfort you! Make the conscious decision to be present and shift your mind to what you’re thankful for and food will no longer have the job of making you feel better.

You decide how you feel

I present you with a challenge to choose to feel gratitude. No matter what’s going on in your weight journey, there’s always something to feel thankful for. And during this holiday season, be aware that your expectations and how they might not be aligned with reality. You might be causing yourself additional stress to achieve something unrealistic. Remember, we get to decide which feelings we feel in the vessel of our bodies. It’s always a choice – a choice to propel thankfulness, to appreciate and be grateful for how life unfolds and choose instead gratitude and love instead of negative emotions.

It’s such an amazing time of year and I hope you are all able to hold onto the spirit of gratitude all year round.
