As a Big Hearted Feeler, feeling FULLY ALIVE is your gift.
As a Big Hearted Feeler, feeling FULLY ALIVE is your gift.
You possess an extraordinary gift of feeling emotions deeply and experiencing the world in a profoundly rich and vivid way. Your heightened sensitivity allows you to connect with others on a deep level and perceive subtle nuances in your environment. Your Superpower is that you are keenly aware of your senses, which enables you to appreciate the beauty and intricacies of life. You are living in the here and now.
Your ability to deeply connect with your emotions and senses is truly remarkable, and you have a way of appreciating the little beauties and moments in life that often go overlooked by others. You experience the world with heightened sensitivity, awareness and connection — allowing you to navigate life with a depth that is unlike any other. Your superpower lies in your capacity to feel deeply, love fiercely, and bring profound insight and empathy to every situation.
Sensory - Emotional Overload
While your ability to empathize and connect deeply with others is such a beautiful gift, it can also be your Achilles' heel when it comes to your weight loss journey. This deep emotional awareness (and even environmental awareness, coming from all of your senses) can sometimes lead to feeling overwhelmed or overstimulated. Especially during challenging moments or at the end of a busy day or week when you feel overworked, over touched, and pretty much over the whole damn thing (I have a 4 year old daughter that loves to hang all over me – and I ADORE her – but, trust me, I get it 😓). You may find yourself caught in cycles of emotional eating as a coping mechanism, using food to soothe and comfort yourself amidst the intensity of your emotions or feelings of overstimulation
As a Feeler with a Big Heart, your heightened sensitivity to emotions and sensory stimuli can sometimes feel overwhelming. You don’t just feel all the highs, you also feel all the lows. You don’t just take in all the beauty, you also take in all the noise and chaos. It’s a lot like having a radio station that picks up every channel at the same time. This can make it challenging to navigate and regulate your emotions, leading to reliance on food as a means of coping. When the intensity of your feelings or the sensory inputs of the world around you starts to feel like ‘too much’ … seeking solace and comfort in food can feel like an easy way to get a self-soothing fix.
Learning to navigate your emotional responses and have better coping strategies will be key to overcoming this as an obstacle to finally achieving, and enjoying, lasting weight loss results.
Feeling emotionally overwhelmed or drained by intense emotions that can feel like “too much”... (enter, chocolate and popcorn! 🍿)
Becoming overstimulated by sensory inputs such as noise, light, or crowds and not knowing/having ways to self-calm, snacking/sweets have become your ‘go to’ for taking the edge off.
Using food as a way to calm your nerves or soothe emotions that feel uncomfortable, undesirable or intense.
Engaging in emotional eating patterns to cope with feelings of worry, sadness, frustration or overstimulation.
To overcome the Sensory - Emotional Overload Effect, it's essential to equip yourself with emotional processing techniques and emotional self care strategies that are both: actually effective and aligned with your goals. Because even though food may have been a useful coping mechanism at some points of your life – the truth is that at this point in your life it's becoming more and more clear that continuing with this same approach will create ongoing stuckness in this area of your life. Keeping you from achieving the weight loss that you desire.
It's also essential to recognize how societal expectations and gender roles may have influenced your relationship with food, emotions and self-care. As a woman, you may have been socialized to prioritize the needs of others over your own, leading to strong emotions and neglecting your own emotional needs, but sis let me tell you…you are not everyone's therapist (despite what others may believe). While your big, beautiful heart may read like a “dump emotions here” neon sign to others, it’s on you to find the strength to draw some boundaries and make sure their baggage doesn’t become your baggage.
In order to stop staying stuck with the same eating patterns that have sabotaged your results until now, you’ll need to:
